Goodbye TV

In the past month, I've said goodbye to two TV shows that managed to keep my attention span; This is Us and Grace & Frankie and now I don't know what else to watch. I mean I've tried other shows but I just can't seem to concentrate.

I loved This is Us for its strong family theme. I wish the script writers would write my life for their character development and ability to tell a good story. There was seldom an episode that didn't wrench my guts and work my tear ducts. If I ever changed my mind on kids, it would be an honour to be half the mother Rebecca Pearson was. And oooh a husband and father like Jack? What a dream.

Grace & Frankie caught my attention in the heat of the lockdown and frankly was one of the things that kept me sane when the whole world came to a halt. I wouldn't know where to begin from if I found out that my husband of decades was gay and his partner was his literal partner in a law firm. However, over the years and season we saw two women in their 70s reclaim their lives from that world shattering development and show that perhaps life really begins at 40 or in their case, 70. They showed that life begins when you no longer need to downsize to fit the world but apologetically step into who you are for the world to upgrade itself and accommodate you. In the end, they showed that sometimes your soul mate isn't necessarily your spouse. Sometimes it's a friend and that's totally okay. For this, I can thank Hollywood for the Frozens and Grace & Frankies that it churns out. Let's move on from the mindset that soul mates and true love is only limited to amorous relationships, sometimes it's family and sometimes it's friendships.

Now I'm on the quest for the next big series to capture my heart and attention (Am I really?). Maybe I should be on a quest to finding my Frankie or my Grace? I can't even tell who I'd be in that duo.

If you loved this is us, then I’d recommend ‘A million little things‘
